1830 Restaurant & Bar reopens with a new menu, local flavours, and views
Nestled within the Port Arthur Historic Site Visitor Centre, with sweeping views of the penitentiary, 1830 Restaurant & Bar has reopened with a new concept combined with stunning surroundings and a deep connection to history.
After a seasonal pause for winter, 1830 returns with an exciting new menu curated by renowned Tasmanian chef John Churchill. Inspired by the land, sea and traditions that shaped the lives of the people of turrakana/Tasman Peninsula, chefs reinterpret ingredients and techniques blending them with contemporary approaches creating a menu that honours the stories and flavours of convict-era Tasmania.
These creations highlight the best of the region’s seasonal produce, including sustainably sourced seafood, organic meats, and fresh vegetables, along with a locally sourced and thoughtfully curated wine and spirits list.
Flexible Dining Options:
- Happy Hour Histories: Our popular guide talks in the bar also return on Wednesday 11th December from 3pm. Enjoy a drink from Tasmanian wine and spirits menu, and choose from a grazing menu that includes local oysters, warm olives and house made damper.
- Dinner Service: Bookings from 5 PM for an immersive dining experience where the menu honours the story of food and produce from our establishment period 1830
- Group and Trade Bookings: Available for larger parties and events.
1830 is open Wednesday to Sunday, aligning perfectly as a dining option before Port Arthur Historic Site’s renowned ghost tours or an exquisite way to extend your day after exploring the site. Open to the public entry, there is no need for a site entry ticket to enjoy 1830 Restaurant & Bar.
A must-visit venue for anyone seeking the perfect blend of history, flavour, and Tasmanian hospitality.
