Lavender in bloom
When: Dec - Jan
Where: North-east Tasmania, Tasman Peninsula
There are three main types of lavender - Spanish lavender, English lavender and Lavandin - a hybrid cross. Some are early bloomers with their magnificent blooms appearing in early spring while others are late bloomers with blooms opening up in midsummer. The early bloomers are mostly French lavender but some cultivars of English lavender are also prized for their early spring blooms. Most late spring and early summer blooming lavenders belong to the English lavender group with flowering typically occurring in mid to late summer and tends to last 3 to 4 weeks. In Tasmania you’ll find our lavender farms looking their best throughout the summer.
