Itinerary - Convict Trail

4 days ex Hobart

Day 1: Hobart to Richmond - 30 min/27 km

  • Drive to Richmond, home of Australia's oldest bridge, oldest Catholic church and Australia's oldest gaol, built in 1825. See Old Hobart Town, a carefully constructed model of Hobart as it was in 1820 and a fitting display for Richmond, with its village atmosphere and strong connections with its colonial past
  • Overnight Richmond

Day 2: Richmond to Port Arthur - 1 hr 11 min/83 km

  • On the way to Port Arthur stop at Sorell for a Tasmanian devil park, steep sea cliffs and walks.
  • Stop at the Colonial and Convict Exhibition in Copping, with its extensive collection of interesting artifacts
  • Take another break at Dunalley,and sample local produce, including fresh seafood
  • At Eaglehawk Neck stop at the lookout over Pirates Bay - a magnificent beach bounded by dramatic coastline. Once down on the neck itself, walk the 'dog line' near the Officers’ Quarters
  • Overnight Port Arthur

Day 3: Port Arthur

  • Allow a day to explore Port Arthur Historic Site
  • In the evening take a ghost tour
  • Overnight Port Arthur

Day 4: Port Arthur to Hobart - 1 hr 20 min/95 km

  • Before returning to Hobart, explore the coastline of the Tasman National Park and see the Tessellated Pavement, Devil's Kitchen and the Tasman Arch
  • Depart Hobart.
